A mysterious visitor seems to be moving a garden gnome around the grounds of Peckover House in Wisbech.

During the night, a garden gnome seems to move around mysteriously, reappearing in different flower beds, but no one knows where he came from.

Or at least, no one is owning up. Everyone questioned on the matter denies all knowledge of his origins or of moving him.

“The gnome suddenly appeared a few weeks ago’, said gardener in charge, Allison Napier, “and we still haven’t spotted who keeps moving him around. One day he’s in the Red Border, the next he’s by the Orangery. It’s a real mystery!”

Perhaps a little more detection is needed. Visitors to the house and garden may be able to spot him lurking in the bushes and could maybe help to give him a name.

Meanwhile, enquiries will continue as to how the new resident of Peckover made his way here.

Peckover House and Garden remain open from Saturday to Wednesday, 11am to last admission 4pm (house opening at midday), until November 1. For further information please phone 01945 589435.
