A Wisbech couple are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary on Saturday.
Derek and Pat Thorpe had a workplace romance after meeting in the Rose and Crown Hotel, Wisbech, and married at the town’s register office on Saturday, November 30, 1963.
Derek, from St John’s Fen End, and Pat, from Walsoken, set up home together in Norwich Road.
Derek worked at several different places in the town, including the White Lion and Ship Hotel. He then went to GW Padley’s, where he spent 22 years before retiring. Pat sadly had to give up work due to ill health.
They had three children, Tanya, Mark and Derek. The couple now have 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren with two more on the way.
They are planning to go out for a meal with family and friends to mark their anniversary. Any family or friends who wish to come to their house, after 2pm on Saturday, are welcome.
