AS their broad smiles show, Brian and Linda Storey are more than happy with the gleaming restored railings outside their shop.
Their business; Storey’s Upholsterers, is one of several to have benefited from an improvement grant from Fenland District Council.
The couple, pictured, were awarded £750 to help them repair and refurbish the 19th-century railings outside their premises on the corner of City Road and High Street in March. The grant, from the Buildings at Risk Fund, was for half the total cost.
Elsewhere, others continue to be helped through the Fenland Renaissance scheme. They include 24-26 Old Market, Wisbech, and 14 High Street, Chatteris, which have received shop front improvement grants.
Good progress is also being made on two projects that have received money from the scheme’s buildings grants: the Rose and Crown in Wisbech and the mud wall to the rear of the Black Bull pub in Whittlesey.
There is still money available from the buildings grants scheme. For details, call Martyn Kendall, FDC’s conservation officer, on 01354-654321 or e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
