The Citizen is helping a local kennel rehome some of its greyhounds this Christmas as it desperately needs to make room for more unwanted dogs.

The dogs are all at the kennels of Barbara Townsend, at Marshland St James, and she said they are full to bursting.

“There are a lot of trainers packing up and these poor dogs have to go somewhere,” Barbara said. “We have a problem with the black ones – or ‘black beauties’ as we call them.

“Greyhounds make brilliant pets, sleeping 23 hours per day and not needing hardly any exercise.”

The Citizen will be featuring several of the dogs available for rehoming on our website over the holiday period, so keep checking back and see if you can give a dog its dream present this year – a loving home.

Mario is the first dog we have for you.

He is a black male dog who was born in 2008. He is very tall and handsome, but can be a bit strong on the lead.
