Independent pensioner Gwen Pallant celebrated her 102nd birthday on Monday.
Gwen only moved into Swan House residential care home, in Chatteris, in April after breaking her wrist in a fall and her family believe that if it hadn’t happened, she would still be living at home.
Gwen was born in Attleborough, Norfolk as one of seven children. She worked in service as a girl and married her husband Gordon in 1930. She lived in Ely for 70 years and was well-known around the town.
Her daughter Marilyn said: “In her day, the WI couldn’t match her for cooking.”
The couple had four children – Carol, Mervyn, Marilyn and Graham. Gwen now has 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She celebrated her special day with a family party at Swan House.
