Have you seen Derek's beloved Nissan Bluebird? It was stolen from outside his March home
A heartbroken car owner has put out a plea for the return of the beloved motor he has owned for 40 years after it was stolen from his drive.
Derek Birtles had no cause to celebrate his 89th birthday on January 25 because that was the day thieves smashed their way into his Nissan Bluebird as it was parked on his driveway in March and stole the car - his only means of transport.
The silver 1980 model was in pristine condition thanks to Derek's careful ownership, ensuring it was regularly serviced at local Nissan dealers JS Holmes in Wisbech St Mary.
It was a former demonstration model and Derek bought the car, registration number G246 KEX practically from new.
Derek said: "It is not worth too much, I suppose it depends on whether you are buying or selling, but it is priceless to me. I have no interest in driving another car, I am so used to that one.
"It has served me well. Now I'm relying on my mobility scooter and the kindness of neighbours to get about. I don't know why someone took it, whether it was mischief making I don't know. I'm fairly certain it is not in the local area any more, but I'm hoping someone might know where it is."
Derek has placed a number of adverts in the Citizen appealing for help in tracking down his car, describing it as "sorely missed" and is urging anyone with information to contact the police on 101 and quoting incident number 35/6195/20.
"It was rather cruel that it was taken on my birthday. I was very attached to it after all these years and I would love to get it back."
