All March residents are being urged to have their say in the future planning of the town.

The town council has launched a questionnaire, which has gone out to every household within the town boundary, and it is hoped people will take the time to complete it.

Councillors and volunteers hand delivered the survey to addresses in the urban area - while the questionnaire was posted out to the more rural addresses.

The aim is to gain the public’s views on how they would like to see the town develop and on the use of land in March.

This would include where new homes and offices should be built and what they should look like.

Responses to the survey will be used to help draw up a draft March Neighbourhood Plan.

Residents will be able to vote on the neighbourhood plan, and it can only be adopted if it is given the public’s backing. But that could be at least two years away.

March has been identified as a core centre for growth. Over the next 20 years March will have to accommodate up to 4,200 new homes, which means growing in size by about one third. That is a significant change which will put great pressure on services and infrastructure.

Fenland District Council’s Core Strategy considers what is best for Fenland as a whole and not the particular needs of March. A March Town Plan will enable residents to have their say on what they think is best and where they think development should take place.

Completed surveys should be returned to the Town Hall, Market Place, March by December 16 2013.
