Hayley takes over reins at Sutton Bridge bar and restaurant
Taking the step from regular customer to becoming mine host at Sutton Bridge's popular Riverside Bar and Restaurant has been a steep learning curve for Hayley Kirman.
“I am new to the hospitality industry but I am learning fast,” said Hayley, who took over the business on Saturday.
The previous owners. Noel and Alice Eastwood, were forced to retire through health issues after being there for the last five years.
Hayley, a family friend, had helped out behind the bar in the summer and “loved it”.
She said: “I went on to manage the business for them in August and September to help them out and when they asked if I would be interested in taking over the lease, I didn't need asking twice. It is very exciting and I know it will be a steep learning curve but I have kept on the staff who were with Noel and Alice so there is plenty of support there.”
Hayley's previous employment has been office-based but she was one of the regulars at the Riverside which incorporates a bar, a restaurant and accommodation of five guest rooms all set within a stone's throw of the river.
The bar will still be open daily from mid-day until 11pm and she plans for the restaurant to serve food from Mondays to Saturdays, including lunches and evening meals once everything is in place.
The late Sunday afternoon live music sessions which have always packed in the fans will continue and Hayley hopes to introduce some one-off events to bring people in on weekday evenings.
"I am thinking, maybe, of a monthly bingo night and perhaps quizzes," she said. "And, obviously, we are happy to listen to ideas."
