Dedicated staff are set to be recognised for their outstanding work at Papworth Hospital as its annual staff awards scheme launches.
Patients, their families and colleagues have the opportunity to nominate someone at the UK’s largest specialist cardiothoracic hospital, who has gone the extra mile in the Papworth People Staff Achievement Awards.
Nominees can come from any department and may be a nurse, porter, consultant or even a selfless volunteer and can be someone who has been involved in yours or a relative’s care, helped you during your stay at Papworth or shown they are outstanding in their work.
Celia Hyde, Modern Matron of Transplant Services, won the 2012 Achieving Excellence Award for more than 20 years of dedicated service at Papworth Hospital.
She said: “I am lucky enough to work with wonderful and inspiring patients, relatives and carers and with a very passionate multidisciplinary team around me.”
Now in its third year the staff awards, which are sponsored by Sodexo Healthcare, enable patients, their relatives and hospital visitors to nominate a member of staff in the Caring for Patients Award, Volunteer of the Year and the Chairman’s Award for Outstanding Achievement.
Stephen Bridge, Chief Executive, said: “Our patients are at the heart of everything we do and this is reflected in the dedication of our staff.
“We are proud of our reputation as one of the best performing hospitals in the UK, which is largely thanks to our staff and the Papworth People Staff Achievement Awards is an excellent way to publicly thank them for their hard work and commitment.”
Members of the Patient and Public Involvement and Membership Committee (PPIM) will judge the awards and nominees will be invited to a special awards ceremony, which is part of the hospital’s Annual Members’ Meeting and Papworth Insight event to be held on 12 September 2013.
Martin O’Rourke, NHS Operations Director for Sodexo Healthcare, who will be presenting an award, said: “Sodexo Healthcare is proud to sponsor the Papworth People Awards for the second year running. They recognise exceptional individuals who are delivering outstanding patient care. Their professionalism and commitment are a true inspiration and we are honoured to support them in the valuable work that they do.”
