SUPPORT to save the closure-threatened Kingswood Park care home is gathering pace with over 1,000 people signing a petition and dozens completing the special Citizen coupons.
Local organisations including the March Branch of the Royal Naval Association have also vowed to fight the closure.
A recent association branch meeting branded the closure as a ‘total abhorrence’.
Residents and their families have pledged to fight to the bitter end to save the home, which is under-threat after Cambridgeshire County Council decided not to renew its block booking for beds this autumn.
Home operators Methodist Homes for the Aged and the property’s owners the Sanctuary Group claim the home needs too much work doing on it to bring it up to the standards expected for the private sector.
Families fear the closure will force their elderly relatives into homes outside the area making it difficult for them to visit.
Residents are devastated at the news they will be forced out of the home which is ideally situated in the community where most have lived all their lives.
Consultation on the closure is due to end on May 3 and a final decision on the home’s future will be made by MHA on May 5.
There is still time to add your support to the campaign. Simply complete the coupon printed in the newspaper and return it to the Citizen office, Market Place, March by April 26 in time to be presented to the relevant bodies.
