High Court ruling triggers council backing for Terrington St John housing plan
A bid to build new homes opposite a village pub won the support of West Norfolk councillors this week, because of a high-profile legal ruling.
Applicants R & S Swann secured permission for three homes adjacent to the Woolpack pub in Terrington St John at a meeting of the borough’s planning committee on Monday.
But parish councillors opposed the scheme, arguing it should be rejected because it stood outside development limits.
However, officers recommended approval because of the implications of a High Court ruling earlier this year relating to a housing development on the old Fosters sports ground in Clenchwarton.
The judge in that casehad backed an inspector’s view that the authority could not demonstrate it had an inadequate housing land supply.
