Scrap blaze at Port Sutton Bridge extinguished by Lincolnshire fire crews

Fire crews have extinguished a “horrendous” blaze which started at a village port yesterday.

Lincolnshire firefighters have just left the scene at Port Sutton Bridge after being called just before 3pm on Tuesday, although they have left some equipment at the site that will be removed later when they return for a re-inspection.

A cause for the blaze, which could be seen for miles around, has yet to be established. Crews were still at the scene this morning.

One resident said that “horrendous” smoke was covering the village yesterday, while another described the incident as a “catastrophe waiting to happen”.

The Environment Agency has been in contact with the fire service due to the blaze’s close proximity to the River Nene.
