A councillor has hit out at fly-tippers after Fenland dealt with 103 incidents in just one month.

Jan French told March Town Council that the figure was “horrendous”.

The comments were made during discussions at the meeting in March Town Hall about Fenland District Council’s forthcoming spending review and fears of charges for brown bin collections.

Cllr French said: “For the month of April there were 103 flytipping incidents in Fenland. Most were in Wisbech and March had 10.

“If they charge people, they will refuse to pay and we will have a lot more flytipping, which probably costs hundreds of thousands of pounds.

“To have 103 incidents in one month is horrendous.”

The Town Council also hopes to hold a public meeting on the future provision on March’s Estover Playing Field shortly.

Clerk Clive Lemmon told the meeting that Companies House has returned the paperwork for the Estover Playing Field 2015 community interest company.

But he also stated that the council hopes to receive the lease for the field from Cambridgeshire County Council in the next few weeks.

Mr Lemmon said: “A public meeting concerning Estover Playing Field can’t be called until both documents are in our possession.

“We hope by the middle of June to have everything and it will be necessary to provide the current Estover Playing Field Association with some short-term funding.”
