Grieving Wisbech parents Robert and Zoe Rust together with family member Martin Pettit are planning their second annual charity football match in memory of their son Lincoln.
Last year the family staged a football match between Martin’s team Wisbech Town Vets and a team made up of family and friends called Lincoln Hope.
The match, together with a raffle raised £1,200 for SANDS (Stillborn and Neonatal Deaths Society), which helps families like the Rusts who have lost a child to stillbirth.
This year the family are hoping to make the event bigger and better and are holding the football match on Friday May 3 at Wisbech Town football ground with kick-off at 7pm. The game will be between Cambs Division Five Champions Gorefield Athletic, which is managed by Martin, who is Robert’s brother, and the Lincoln Hope team.
The match will be followed by a disco and there will again be a raffle. The family are appealing for prizes for the draw and anyone who would like to help can donate items via the Citizen at 11 Union Street, Wisbech.
Admission for the game will be £2.50 for adults and £2 for children.
“People need to know that 17 babies or young children die a day due to no fault of their own, we want to raise awareness of this horrific situation, SANDS charity does everything in its power to help the families cope with their loss and they help us no end,” said Robert.
