BEST friends Gary Waldock-Goude and Mark Stevens have handed over £5,000 to charity after pedalling nearly 1,000 in 13 days earlier this summer.
The pair handed over cheques for £2,500 each to Cancer Research Uk and Multiple Sclerosis at a presentation evening held at the Oliver Cromwell Hotel in March recently.
They raised the cash by cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats in June.
The friends chose the charities as they are both causes close to their hearts. Both their mothers have battled breast cancer and beaten the disease and Gary’s aunt Teresa Waldock from Cambridge suffered from MS and died in her forties as a result of complications from the illness in 2006.
They completed the gruelling ride despite having never done much cycling before and kept a daily blog updating followers of their progress through the social networking site Facebook.
Both Gary and Mark, from March, were delighted with the amount raised and thanked family, friends and everyone else who had supported them throughout.
They particularly thanked the March branch of shoe specialists Josef Seibel who not only sponsored them £1,000 but also provided all the cycling clothing.
