It’s time to get nominating your Wisbech Unsung Heroes

It’s once again time to recognise all those Wisbech residents who have gone the extra mile for the town and community with the launch of the Wisbech Unsung Heroes.

The awards are back for a fifth time – the pandemic having meant there were two years when the awards could not be held - but now it’s time to nominate your heroes.

Wisbech Town Council is running the Wisbech Unsung Heroes Awards with support from the Fenland Citizen and the aim is to recognise those townspeople who go above and beyond to help the community and its residents.

The awards were initially launched in 2017 with an awards ceremony in early 2018 and are open to anyone who lives or works in the town, or attends one of the local schools or colleges.

This year we have six categories: Best Neighbour (that person who goes out of the way to help those around them), Best Customer Service (could be a shop, business, or even medical person), Best Business (a firm that has made an outstanding contribution to the town), Roger Green Sports Award (someone who has made a fantastic contribution to sport in the town - participant or coach), Wisbech Community Hero (someone who has made a major contribution to help the local community), Wisbech Youth Community Hero (as per previous award for anyone under 18).

Those shortlisted will be invited to a presentation evening on Saturday, January 25, at 6pm at The St Raphael Community Hall, Love Lane, where the winners will be announced.

To nominate someone, please visit https://www.wisbechtowncouncil.gov.uk/events or you can post them to Wisbech Town Council, Council Chambers, 1 North Brink, Wisbech PE13 1JR. Closing date is December 6, 2024.

A panel of judges will choose the winners in each category from those nominated.

We will need the name, address, and contact details of the person/group you are nominating, so we can contact them and invite them to the grand presentation evening.

You will need to tell us what category you are nominating them for, your own address and contact details including a daytime phone number and an email (where possible).

You will also need to tell us, in your own words, exactly why you are nominating the person and why you think they should be a winner – put as much detail in as you can.
