Jail for Whittlesey man who attacked his ex-partner and threatened to burn her alive

A man who attacked his ex-partner and threatened her with a hammer has been jailed.

Kevin Oliver, 36, pushed his way into the victim’s house in Whittlesey at about midnight on April 20 and began accusing her of talking to another man.

He threatened to burn her alive and demanded she give him her mobile phone.

Fearing for her life, the victim ran to the back of the house, but Oliver blocked her and slammed her to the floor.

She tried to run to the front door, but Oliver blocked her again and had also picked up a hammer from the kitchen.

He shoved her against the stairs, held her down and said he would “smash her head in” if she didn’t hand over the phone.

Terrified, the victim handed over the phone just before officers arrived and arrested Oliver.

On Thursday at Huntingdon Law Courts, Oliver, of Coronation Avenue, Whittlesey, was jailed for 33 months, having pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm and also activated a suspended sentence.

He was also handed an indefinite restraining order.

DC Lydia Halliday, who investigated, said: “This was a despicable attack by Oliver, which left the victim absolutely terrified, so it’s great he’s been brought to justice.”
