Knees up for Fenland pensioners

Pensioners in Fenland enjoyed a knees-up to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

The St Augustine’s Centre organised the indoor street party at Wisbech Grammar School, which was attended by 160 people. Party-goers enjoyed tunes performed by the school’s jazz band, along with 1940s singer A Cover Girl. Staff and helpers from St Augustine’s donned 1940s outfits during the event, along with laying on a tea party. The event was also the last engagement for Wisbech town beadle Allister Hopkins. Centre manager Maxine Woodhouse has thanked everyone for attending and supporting the event. She said: “The guests loved it as it brought back a lot of memories.” Photo: MFCP15AF09086
