K Steppers line dancers will join first ever Wisbech Star Shine Walk in memory of friend Viv Killingworth

A group of line dancers will be taking part in a charity walk in memory of a friend.

The K Steppers team of 15 will be joining around dozens of other walkers for the first Star Shine Night Walk to be held in Wisbech in aid of the Alan Hudson Centre, run by the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, which holds an annual walk in Cambridge.

Toni Bird, the community partnership lead at the Alan Hudson, is organising the six kilometre (3.7 miles) walk and is hoping hundreds will sign up to join the 130 already registered to take part on May 17, starting and finishing in the grounds of Elgood’s Brewery on North Brink.

The K Steppers are taking part in memory of Vivian (Viv) Kilingworth, who sadly died three years ago. Viv, who was one of the original K Steppers, was diagnosed with breast cancer and would visit the Alan Hudson Centre for treatment and blood tests.

She was always very grateful for her treatment and spoke highly of the staff and the care they gave her. It was always her hope that the dancers would raise money as a thank you for that care.

Linda Pike one of Viv’s friends: “It's the least we can do; we are honoured to be doing the walk in Viv's memory and hope to raise lots of money for the wonderful centre.”

Toni said: “Arthur Rank always hold their walk in Cambridge and people have to travel, but I thought it would be lovely to hold our own event here in Wisbech,.

“Elgood’s have agreed to open up their grounds for us, so it promises to be a lovely event as the grounds aren’t open that often, and our walkers will be able to enjoy them when they complete their walk.”

To sign up for the walk, visit the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity website – it is £10 per person to enter, and all money will go to the local centre.

Toni added: “Star Shine Night Walk Wisbech brings people together for a stroll through the iconic streets of the town, creating a special time to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones.

“It will help raise valuable funds, but it will also hopefully raise awareness of what we do at the Alan Hudson Centre.”

The annual Arthur Rank Star Shine Walk is in Cambridge on June 21 and again people can sign up through the website.

Arthur Rank provides palliative and end of life care to patients in their own homes across Fenland, as well as the services provided at the Alan Hudson Centre.
