Cambridgeshire County Council sets aside £59m for road repairs and Fenland is getting its share
Over £59million is due to be spent on Cambridgeshire’s roads, pathways, bridges and rights of way this year including nearly £9million in Fenland.
Cambridgeshire County Council has set out how it plans to spend this money, including a list of roads that have been prioritised for major repairs in 2025/26.
Cllr Alex Beckett (Liberal Democrat), chair of the highways and transport committee, told a meeting this week (March 4) it was “really great to see this administration able to put that amount of investment” into the county’s roads.
Cllr Neil Shailer (Labour) said the authority was putting funding towards proactive preventative work to try and stop potholes before they form.
Over £28.7million is due to be spent on carriageway structural and preventative work, with a further £7.2million due to be spent on structural and preventative work on pathways and cycleways.
The budget also includes £3.1million towards bridge strengthening work, and £735,000 for maintaining the county’s rights of way.
Cllr Peter McDonald (Liberal Democrat) said he felt the £500,000 for signs and line replacement across the county “seemed a bit low”.
Cllr Alan Sharp (Conservative) said he also had concerns about the amount of funding proposed for signs and line repairs.
He said the amount set out in the report “seems too low” to deal with “the issues around the county”.
Officers highlighted there is another £350,000 funding for this in the revenue budget.
