THE new Local Information Centre in Wisbech has received its official opening.
It was the culmination of months of hard work between the Wisbech Area Regeneration and Development Trust (WisARD) and Wisbech Town Council, who are pleased to see it finally up and running.
David Oliver, chairman of WisARD and town council leader, said: “This has been set up for local people and for visitors. It has information of all sorts for all kinds of people. In fact, our first query was about the location of the drop-in dentist.”
He thanked the Hudson Trust, Robert Hall Trust, WisARD and the town council for their help.
The centre received an impressive line-up of civic leaders for its opening as it coincided with a Mayoral walking tour of the town for the launch of the Wisbech Arts Festival.
There were no less than seven Mayors at the opening, with Wisbech Mayor Vivien MacRae leading the group. Cllr Jan French, the March Mayor, was also in attendance, as were Mayors from King’s Lynn, Sheringham, Rushden and East Northants, Boston and Hunstanton.
The Wisbech Local Information Centre was set up in response to Fenland District Council announcing cuts to Tourist Information Centres last year.
It is being manned by volunteers who all have a good knowledge of the local area. Six have been recruited already but WisARD would like to hear from anyone else who can volunteer some spare time to help.
Anyone who wants to get involved can call in at the centre in Post Office Lane or contact Penny Stocks on 01945-581208 or email email@example.com
