A fed-up resident is calling for a Wisbech supermarket car park to be locked at night in a bid to stop the nuisance caused by boy racers.

The man who lives in the town’s Elm Low Road says he cannot sleep due to the loud noise coming from the Morrison’s car park at night.

The man, who did not wish to be named, says this issue has been going on for around six years and is worse on Friday and Saturdays.

He is also increasingly frustrated with the response when he tries to report the issue to police using the 101 number.

The man is now calling for the gates to be locked after the supermarket closes.

He said: “Anything from two cars up to a dozen congregate in the car park.

“They play loud music and also speed and rev around the car park with their big exhausts. Up to 10pm, I don’t have an issue – but after 10pm it is beyond a joke.

“This is starting to have a huge impact on my health and work.

“I would like that car park locked an hour after closing.”

His frustration is made worse when trying to report the issue to the police using the 101 number. Operators pass him between the Norfolk and Cambridgeshire forces as the supermarket is on the county border.

The man has also raised the issues with the manager of Morrison’s on a number of occasions.

He added: “I feel like I’m banging my head against a brick wall.”

A Morrison’s spokesman said: “We are in discussions with the car park’s landlord to find a solution.

“In the meantime we will continue to monitor the situation and work with the neighbourhood policing team when necessary.”
