Children at local Fenland schools tucked into a delicious freshly-cooked roast dinner this week as part of an initiative aimed at engaging young people with food.
March All Saints Academy and Peckover Academy in Wisbech both saw pupils joined by their parents and carers for a roast meal made using locally sourced pork and fresh vegetables grown by the area’s farmers.
The meals were produced as part of the fourth annual National Roast Dinner Day and was co-ordinated by the Food for Life Partnership working alongside Cambridgeshire Caterers.
Part of the aim of the day was to highlight the quality of food available as school dinners in a bid to encourage a better take up of a cooked midday meal.
The days also included other food based activities including seed planting for vegetable growing as well as cooking sessions for children and parents.
