The Gables Care Home in Chatteris re-opened this week after a £300,000 renovation. The Home, now registered to care for 49 elderly residents, had been empty for over a year until it was purchased by the Black Swan Care Group last September.
Since the purchase, over £300,000 has been invested into the Home including much-improved access for staff and residents, new lounge and dining rooms, upgraded bathing and showering facilities, 20 new bedroom en-suites, a refurbished kitchen as well as redecoration and new carpets.
The Gables was built in the late 18th Century and is a Grade 2 listed building in the centre of the town. Tom Lyons, operations manager with the Norwich-bsed group, explained once the home is fully operational, it will employ a total of 50 staff who will all have to complete the Home’s comprehensive training programme.
He said the directors of the company are looking forward to The Gables again becoming an integral part of the community.
