New Year, New You: why not make 2016 your own personal Year of Sport? It’s healthy, fun and there’s something to suit everyone.
Here are some of the options:
Swimming: Swim Fit sessions are run at three New Vision Fitness pools in Fenland. The George Campbell Centre in March offers sessions on Wednesdays (5-5.55pm) and Saturdays (12.45-1:30pm). Wisbech’s Hudson Centre offers two on Mondays (1-1.30pm and 7.30-8pm) and the Manor Centre in Whittlesey has one on Mondays (6.45-7:30pm).
These sessions are all activator-led but there are always Swim Fit cards available to use in any casual swim session. In addition, all three pools offer weekly family fun sessions for families only and Wet and Wild sessions that are better suited to older children. Badminton: Smash Up Badminton sessions for ages 12-16 resume in the week beginning January 11. They are held at Neale Wade Academy in March on Mondays (6-7pm), the Hudson Centre in Wisbech (Tuesday, 5-6pm), and Cromwell Community College in Chatteris (Friday, 6-7pm). The first session of the new year is free; after that they cost £2. Pay-and-play sessions for adults run at the Hudson (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 10am-noon), and a new evening session will be starting on Thursdays (6-7pm).
Table tennis: Why not pop down to your local club on Knock Night? March Table Tennis Club have sessions on Tuesdays (7-9pm) and Wisbech Table Tennis Club run theirs on Thursdays (7-9pm). Both clubs offer a free taster session. You could also have a go on one of Fenland’s outdoor tables; they are free and located at Wisbech Park, the Manor Centre in Whittlesey and March’s West End Park.
Cricket: Chance to Shine street cricket starts on Tuesday, January 26, (8-9pm) held at the Hudson Centre. Sessions are for over-16s and are led by a qualified coach. Sessions will cost £2, with the first one free.
Trampolining: A four-week series of trampolining sessions for females aged 14-plus starts at the Hudson Centre on Wednesday, February 3, for four weeks. The series costs £12. Call or pop into your local New Vision Fitness centre to book your place.
