Man charged in connection with the death of March lorry driver

A man has been charged in connection with the death of a March lorry driver.

Phil Asplin, 59, of Cedar Close, died after a collision between two lorries on the A141 at Hartford on March 10.

Mr Asplin sadly suffered fatal injuries after the lorry he was driving collided with another HGV and instantly caught fire.

The other lorry caught fire a short while later, however the driver, Vasile Chindris, 23, of Percival Road, Hornchurch, Romford, Essex, managed to escape although was taken to Hinchingbrooke Hospital serious but not life threatening injuries.

He was arrested yesterday (Tuesday, March 17) and has since been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been remanded in police custody and is due to appear at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday, March 18).

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either of the vehicles leading up to the moments before the incident.
