‘One of the best’ parades was enjoyed by families who flocked to Manea at the weekend to enjoy the annual gala.

Vintage tractors, roller skating bucket collectors and Worzel Gummidge on a ride-along lawn mower were some of the treats on offer during the annual procession which was supported by an estimated 2,500 people.

Gala Queen Lucy Johns , gala prince Rauri Cox and their attendants waved to the crowd as the parade made its way from Manea Primary School to the village playing field.

Manea Silver Band led the four floats, tractors and the Caledonian Pipe Band.

Boxer Jordan Gill opened the gala, which included a host of games and a dancing display by Manea Primary School. The event also included a dog show.

During the evening families returned to the field to enjoy a performance by Moon After Sun.

Committee chairman Kevin Keel was delighted with the day’s success.

He said: “It went really well and was one of the best I have seen. We say it every year but this one tops them all.

“We had good weather which helped and we had tremendous support.

“The event was in doubt a while ago but we have a new committee and we pulled off a brilliant day.”
