March children’s colour competition is a record breaker

Staff at a March pre-school will be working over the Easter break to sort out its equipment sheds after a fundraiser in aid of new resources raised a record-breaking amount.

Maple Grove Community Group is looking forward to replacing some of its older equipment with new toys, and more modern resources, after its annual sponsored Colour Collect competition raised £2,532.47.

The contest sees the pre-school children given a box with a colour, and they then have to collect as many different items of that colour as they can and fit them inside.

Prizes of books and sweets were given to the boy and girl who collected the most items and the most sponsorship money in each of the pre-school classes – blue room, green room, yellow room and Maple Grove at Westwood.

Lucy Neugebauer, the pre-school’s finance manager and administrative assistant, said: “We raised around £500 more this year, which is fantastic. Given the economic climate, families have been incredibly generous.”
