A £200,000 make-over for Estover Playing Field in March will be going ahead after the thumbs-up from councilors.
Fenland District Council’s cabinet agreed to give £100,000 to help transform the field during a meeting on Thursday.
March Town Council has already pledged £100,000 to the project and is hoping to get further funding from other bodies.
The town council is also working through the process of putting together a community trust to run and develop the field.
Leader of the district council John Clark said: “It is a big opportunity for March to provide a site with a state of the art facility for the town.
“We are pleased to support this by giving £100,000.”
Mr Clark also stated that the money will not be used for the day-to-day running of the site.
Mayor of March, Kit Owen, was pleased with the confirmation of the funding.
He said: “We haven’t got a real site of footballing excellence outside the schools and March Town Football Club.
“We are progressing with the community trust. I would like to have it running in May.”
