A March family is hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Support with a coffee morning this weekend.

The diagnosis of Dennis (Spud) Taylor and Pam Shaw has inspired their family to organise the event in St Peter’s Church, March, on Saturday.

Fundraising has already got off to a flying start after Mr Taylor’s granddaughter Katie and her friend Maddie Setchfield raised £32 with a sponsored silence at a darts match on October 2.

Her proud mum Gemma said: “They are two very chatty girls and were really pleased to have raised that much money.

“This is very close to Katie’s heart following the diagnosis.

“We are really proud.”

Katie will be continuing her fundraising at the coffee morning when she will be running the tombola along with baking cakes.

The event will also include a host of other attractions for visitors to enjoy on the day.

The coffee morning, which has been organised by Katie’s aunt Nicky, will be held from 10am.
