MARK Spinks (47), of Walpole Highway, will have the honour of being one of the 8,000 Olympic torchbearers for the London 2012 Torch Relay.

He will be running as a torchbearer later this year, thanks to Samsung which asked for nominations for unsung heroes to be torchbearers.

Samsung received 16,000 nominations and Mark was put forward by friend Fiona Roberts because of his commitments to helping young people through sport.

Mark is a table tennis coach. As well as being a successful player in his own right, he has taken many juniors with disabilities to national tournaments and, through his dedication, saw the creation of the first disabled tournament at the King’s Lynn Table Tennis Championships.

Mark has involvement with the West Norfolk Deaf Association, running activities for the disabled and assisted the Borough Council’s Urban Sports Motivator in managing sports camps across King’s Lynn, working with disruptive children and helping get their lives back on track.

From May 19 the torch will embark on its 70 day journey across the UK.
