FA Vase second round
Wisbech Town 2
Cleethorpes Town 1
A Josh Ford double sent Wisbech Town through to the third round of the FA Vase after a hard-fought encounter with Cleethorpes Town this afternoon.
Brody Robertson wasted the best chance of the opening exchanges when he ballooned over Lea Jordan’s goal.
But Jack Richardson gave the visitors the lead after 32 minutes with a fine curling shot into the bottom corner, which gave Jordan no chance.
The Fenmen were level nine minutes later, though, when Nathan Horne was sent clear down the right and his low cross was turned in by Ford.
And the big striker was in the right place again two minutes after the restart when he nodded in from close range from a left-wing corner.
Ford could have had a hat-trick on the hour, but Brad Beattie saved the effort with his feet.
And Jonathan Oglesby almost produced a spectacular equaliser for Cleethorpes late on when his 30 yard drive was turned behind by Jordan.
But the Fenmen saw the game out to book their place in Monday’s third round draw.
