Medals for Wisbech veteran

A Wisbech Second World War veteran has been presented with a medal to commemorate his service on the “worst journey in the world”.

Dick Housden endured freezing temperatures and the threat of being torpedoed while delivering vital supplies to the Russians in the Arctic convoys. Mr Housden has now been presented with the Ushakov medal given by Russian Government to those who served on the Arctic convoy.

Days after that he received a second medal from the Russian Government to mark the “70th anniversary of the victory in the great Patriotic War 1941 – 1945”.

Mr Housden proudly brought the medals along to the last Royal Naval Assocation meeting. Dick Housden is pictured above with his medals Photo: PAT HOWAN
