Hundreds of pupils from Burrowmoor Primary Academy in March enjoy day out to Hunstanton Beach

A school made good use of its fundraising money as pupils enjoyed an unforgettable day at the coast.

Last week, Burrowmoor Primary Academy enjoyed a sun-soaked adventure to Hunstanton Beach – a trip made possible by the incredible efforts of the Burrowmoor family.

Thanks to funds raised during last year’s sponsored ‘Doggy Waddle’, 300 children made the journey, accompanied by their teachers and a team of parent volunteers.

Ruth Bailey, head teacher, said: “Excitement buzzed through the air as six coaches set off for the coast. One car went ahead early to set up a base on the beach, ensuring everything was ready for the big arrival. And what a sight it was.

“For some of our pupils, it was their first time ever seeing the sea. Many stood in awe, simply taking in the vastness of the ocean and the warm, golden sand stretching out before them.”

“The weather was glorious – hot and bright – perfect for a beach day.”

After settling in, the children lost no time building sandcastles, digging trenches, and collecting curious finds.

Razor clam shells quickly earned the nickname ‘nails’, and many delighted in discovering jellyfish and even a few live crabs along the shore.

After lunch, with the tide beginning to roll out, paddling officially began.

Ms Bailey added: “Squeals of laughter echoed as water games took over, and it was not long before most children – and a few grown-ups – ended up soaked, sandy, and smiling.”

One Year 6 pupil, seeing the sea for the very first time, summed up the experience perfectly: “This is the best day of my life.”

A parent later shared: “C had such a good time, he is already asking when we can go back.”

“As a school, we are incredibly grateful to all the staff and families who helped make this magical day happen – not only by supporting the fundraising, but also by trusting us to give the children a day filled with joy, discovery, and memory-making,” Ms Bailey said.

“We may have brought a bit more sand home than we intended, but what we truly brought back were moments that will last a lifetime.”
