CAMBRIDGESHIRE Mencap, a charity providing services for people with learning disabilities, is having an Open Day today (Wednesday) to promote two new services and give people the chance to discuss potential employment opportunities.
Cambridgeshire Mencap plans to offer its domiciliary service to local people and needs to recruit local support workers. This service provides tailored support so that adults with learning disabilities can live independently at home – whether they need a couple of hours help a week or 24-hour care.
Support staff work with people in their own homes and out in the community, helping them to access amenities such as shops, cinemas and leisure facilities. Support staff also support people to improve their own living skills and build their confidence.
The open day is at the Trinity Church in March from 2pm to 8pm.
The other new service is Artworks, which is due to be launched in the New year. The group provides an opportunity for adults with a learning disability to take part in arts and crafts.
A small pilot service is currently running on Fridays from the Mencap office at 87 High Street, March, from 10am to 3pm.
As well as the open day, today there will be a workshop running from the March office. Come and meet the creative art tutor and find out about volunteering for Artworks or for the adult befriending scheme.
Come to the office from 10am to noon, 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm or call 01354-651166.
