Mollie enjoys a date with royalty
A Fenland woman who received the British Empire Medal for her services to her village and the Methodist Church has rubbed shoulders with royalty at a garden party.
In recognition of receiving her British Empire Medal in the 2018 New Years Honours List, Tydd St Giles Fen resident Mollie Rollins was lucky enough to be invited to Buckingham Palace last week to enjoy The Queen's Garden Party.
Despite the rain, everyone turned out in their finest and Mollie enjoyed meeting a wonderful range of people who had also been honoured for their service to the country.
The event was attended by the Queen herself, along with Prince Harry and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. T
he England cricket team were also in attendance in recognition of the launch of the Cricket World cup.
Mollie had previously received her medal from Mrs Julie Spence, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire at a personal ceremony held in Peterborough Town Hall in April.
She was of one of 252 recipients across the country to be awarded the BEM and Mollie's was presented to her for her services to the Methodist Church and her local village of Tydd St. Giles.
Mollie has played the organ at the Methodist Church for 75 years and ran the Sunday school for over 40 years as well as sitting on many charitable committees in the village for many years.
Mollie was accompanied by her daughter Susan Bradshaw and both Mollie and her daughter had a wonderful afternoon rubbing shoulders with dignitaries and royalty alike.
