A CLIMB up one of the world’s biggest mountains has raised almost £5,000 for a Wisbech charity.

Jacky Vipond and Erika Roughton went to Tanzania where they climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for the Macmillan Hudson Palliative Day Care Centre, based in North Cambs Hospital.

The adventurous pair went to the centre on Tuesday to present a cheque for a massive £4,745.93.

Jacky and Erika were aiming to reach the summit of Uhuru, at an altitude of 5,895 metres (19,340 feet), on their climb and they managed to get there, albeit at different time due to weather changes.

Jacky said: “It was an awesome adventure and we have many memories to keep.”

The couple thanked everyone for their sponsorship and helping to raise the fantastic amount. Jacky also gave special thanks to Rob Cobb at Hudson Leisure Centre in Wisbech for his expert help over the past year.
