A GROUP of ten police officers and community support officers from Wisbech and March are joining the Movember moustache growing brigade.
The staff will spend the month growing moustaches to raise awareness of men’s health issues.
The fundraising supports prostate cancer and testicular cancer initiatives.
Taking part are PC Dave Stevens, Detective Sergeant Dave York, PCSO Andy Bush, PC Carl Stoppard, Sergeant Dave Bax, PC Dale Jeffrey, PCSO Sam Dyer, PC Shaun Mitchell, PS Stacy Smith and civilian caretaker Nick Hodgson.
PC Mitchell admitted it was his idea to take part in the fundraising and it snowballed from there with other colleagues agreeing to take part.
“We discussed taking part for sometime saying come November we would do it but some people bottled it. Now we have ten definitely doing it from Wisbech and March,” said Shaun.
He added there is a lot of awareness for breast cancer but men’s health issues aren’t always as openly discussed.
“It is a way of having a bit of fun and raising awareness of male cancers as well,” said Shaun.
A donation box has been placed at Wisbech police station for donations from the public and anyone from March wanting to give can do so at the March station.
“A lot of the chaps here who don’t want to do it are going to give some money and the females as well,” said Shaun.
