MP steps in to help visa family

MP Steve Barclay has stepped in to help the Cox family with their UK settlement issue.

The family are featured in today’s paper (June 27) as Filipino mum Sarah Cox has had her hopes dashed of settling permanently in the UK with her children while her British Citizen husband works overseas.

Unfortunately, the Citizen did not manage to speak with Mr Barclay before today’s newspaper went to press. But the MP got in touch and reassured us that he responds to everyone who contacts him.

His office has previously had contact with the Cox’s by email and phone, at the end of last year, but when the MP’s staff asked for more information, they received no reply and assumed the issue had been resolved.

Mr Cox said he did not receive this email, which is why the information was not sent and the matter went no further.

A spokesperson from Mr Barclay’s office said: “Sadly this appears to have been an unfortunate breakdown in communication. I am however pleased to note that I have spoken to Mr Cox and will action his case by the end of today (Tuesday).

“I want to reassure you that Steve responds to every constituent who writes to him, and has dealt with 3,750 cases since he was elected.”
