MP Steve Barclay to chair public meeting over ongoing Wisbech road closure

MP Steve Barclay is to chair a public meeting over the ongoing closure of Barton Road in Wisbech.

Representatives of Cambridgeshire County Council, Fenland District Council, Anglian Water, Cambridgeshire Police and Stagecoach will be there to listen to public concerns, answer questions and help find a way forward.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 8, at The Queen Mary Centre in Wisbech, starting at 6.30pm.

Mr Barclay, the MP for North East Cambridgeshire, said: “It’s clear that the situation on Barton Road cannot continue as it is, and I am committed to working with all parties to ensure progress is made.

“The ongoing road closures have caused considerable frustration and disruption for far too long.

“This meeting is an important opportunity for us to come together as a community and speak directly with the organisations responsible.

“Public input is vital, and I strongly encourage you to attend and make your voice heard. Thank you for your continued patience and engagement.”

Barton Road, which is one of the main roads from Wisbech through to Wisbech St Mary, has been closed on and off for the last three years for work on a sewer underneath, and is hitting businesses and those living in the area. Nearby residents are also fed up with their roads being congested.

Anglian Water has said works will go on until at least March next year.
