A man accused of attacking a woman in Murrow missed his scheduled court appearance because notification of the hearing was sent to the wrong address, a court was told.

David Doyle, 32, had been expected to appear in court in King’s Lynn on Friday to face a single charge of assault.

Although listings papers showed his address as Pentelow Close, Murrow, the court was told that he had been bailed to an address in London, with a condition not to enter Cambridgeshire – which meant he would have had no way of knowing when the hearing was scheduled.

District judge Peter Veits said of the mix-up: “Presumably the police didn’t realise they had made those conditions.”

The case was adjourned until July 3. Doyle’s bail was extended until that date.
