A Fenland dog groomer has proved she is a cut above the rest after winning a national competition.

Sam Laws, of Doggy Styling in High Street, March, beat off 40 other groomers to win the prestigious title.

She took the title home from the annual Room to Groom competition with her makeover of miniature poodle Pickles.

Judge Charlotte Harrison said: “Sam’s groom was the biggest transformation of all the entries and the dog is finished beautifully.”

Miss Laws spent two hours giving the 18-month-old dog her first hair cut.

She said “I was so shocked to come first.

“I entered as the entry fees were being donated to the charity Canine Partners and I never expected to get placed, let alone win.

“It was the first time Pickles had had a cut, so there was a lot of hair to come off.

“I was really pleased with the final look. She looked like a different dog.

“I was really pleased to win.”

Miss Laws qualified as a canine stylist in 2007 and opened Doggy Styling five years ago. She is also a qualified Reiki practitioner.
