Nature reserve looking for ‘friends’

RINGS End nature reserve near March is looking for people from the community to help manage the site and shape it for the future.

Cambs County and Fenland District councils are looking for ‘Friends’ to start the new group.

Residents are being invited on a special walkabout around the reserve with the Greenspaces Team on Saturday (April 28) from 10am to noon starting from the car park off Twenty Foot Road.

Friends and volunteer groups have been set up at other nature reserves to help preserve them for the future and make sure there is local ownership of community greenspaces.

Support will be available from both councils in the form of technical advice, accessing funding and grants and arranging training.

During the ‘walkabout’, the views and ideas of local people will be invited on how the site is currently managed, their vision of how it could be managed in the future and what the objectives of the Friends Group might be.

This will be followed up by a meeting on May 22 at Fenland Hall, March from 7pm to 9pm. This will be to preparing a plan of projects for the nature reserve and identifying key people to form a committee that will take the group forward.
