Sutton Bridge Perch Here trail installed in village
Visitors will be able to take a wander down the riverbank to discover quirky seats and bespoke pieces of art in a new trail.
The Perch Here trail on West Bank at Sutton Bridge is on the route of the new King Charles III England Coast Path.
It aims to improve links between the riverside, bridge, moorings, and village centre consisting of unique furniture by wood artist Peter Tree including a carved figure reflecting King John’s treasure thought to have been lost in the salt marshes.
The trail, which is a collaboration between Lincolnshire County Council, Transported, the Arts Council England-funded Creative People and Places programme and Coastal Communities Fund, tells a unique story of the community’s heritage and creativity using the hand-carved wooden sculptures.
Coun Tom Dyer, executive support councillor for economy, environment and planning at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “This is a great new development for Sutton Bridge which is the gateway to Lincolnshire.
“There has been so much community involvement in the project and the installations already look at home here.
“It’s a real celebration of the area, its history and its future.
“The riverside trail is on the route of the new King Charles III England Coast Path, and we’re keen that local businesses use the opportunities that new visitors will bring.”
Improvements for pedestrians in the village have been funded by the council to better link the village to surrounding areas.
For the installations, a series of creative community workshops were held which led to the commissioning of master craftsman and artist Peter Tree.
Working alongside him were the Boston and South Holland Woodcarvers and volunteers and staff at Long Sutton Youth shed, with 260 participants sharing ideas during the process.
Feedback from residents who attended the launch was positive, highlighting that the ‘craft demonstrated is amazing’ and that ‘for work of this quality to be in the public realm, free, and available to everybody is really special’.
