New bowling green and expansion to splash pad for Wisbech as part of Fenland Inspire Project announced during council meeting

Councillors at a meeting on Monday night gave an insight into what's to come for Fenland as part of a ‘massive project’.

At the meeting of Wisbech Town Council, Cllr Steve Tierney discussed the Fenland Inspire Project.

The project is a “huge investment” across Fenland in leisure facilities, heritage and the arts, which will take place over the next two years.

Every leisure centre in Fenland will be getting a revamp and in each area other leisure and heritage projects are also being put forward.

These include things such as a new bowls green and other improvements for Wisbech Park and improvements to the Splash Pad.

The Hudson leisure centre will get a lot of work to improve and upgrade it and play equipment will be installed and updated in various places.

But it will not just be leisure that is affected – money will be invested into some of the run-down properties on the high street and work will be done to make civil parking enforcement possible.

Cllr Tierney said: “It is absolutely massive. There are things for every part of Fenland.

“Wisbech has a project for a new bowling green, expansions and extensions to the splash pad, additional lighting for the park, and work on buildings that are in a bad way and have not yet been taken up.

“Lots of stuff for Wisbech and every other town in Fenland, it is an exciting time driven by the forthcoming changes to local government.”
