REVEREND John Penny is stepping down as Rural Dean at the end of the month.

Rev Penny has spent two years supported local clergy in his role as Rural Dean and will handing over the reins to Rev Matthew Bradbury, who is the priest of Wisbech St Mary and Guyhirn, with Ring’s End, Gore and Southsea with Murrow and Parson Drove.

Rev Penny said: “I have found my two years as Rural Dean extremely interesting and my admiration for the Clergy has increased greatly.

“They are dedicated to their calling and the demands made on them can be considerable. Officially they have only one day off a week, but they live ‘over the shop’ and are on call all the time.”

Rev Penny lives in Tilney St Lawrence and is married to Rev Diana Penny, who is the appointed vicar of the five parish East Marshland Benefice.
