The Pride in Fenland Awards 2013 are being launched this week to find the special people who make all the difference to their communities, families and friends.

Fenland District Council has again joined forces with The Citizen to stage the seventh Pride in Fenland awards. Who will follow in the footsteps of last year’s winners? - Joe Cracknell, of Chatteris (Good Neighbour), Jessica Roy, of Elm (Young Citizen), Buddies from Young People March Centre (Group Award) and Charlie Jenkins (special community award).

We want your nominations for individuals and groups who are the unsung heroes and heroines in our community. The categories are: Good Neighbour; A group/club/organisation benefiting the community; and Young Citizen.

Each category winner will receive a prize of a £100 cheque.

• Good Neighbour (including a volunteer working for a group, club, organisation or charity): This is open to anyone who gives up their time to voluntarily help a group or person. It might be a friend, neighbour, relative or carer. They might help with shopping, do jobs around the home or garden, take someone out who would otherwise be housebound, or just visit regularly for a welcome chat. They may also be nominated for the hard work they do on behalf of a group, club, organisation or charity.

• Group/club/organisation: Open to any group of people who give up their time to benefit the community voluntarily. The group can comprise any number of people and the judges will be looking for a group which has helped a section of the community or residents in some way other than simply operating as a club. There are many excellent clubs and groups around Fenland but we want to honour that special group which stands out from the rest.

• Young Citizen: The age range for this category has been extended to anyone under the age of 25. We are hoping to encourage nominations from young people who are your unsung heroes for their work in the community. It might be a young carer, someone who has raised money for charity, a young person who has overcome adversity or someone who gives up their time to help others.

Using the form provided, tell us in no more than 100 words, why you have made your nomination.
