AN artefact from Wisbech and Fenland Museum will soon be winging its way across the Atlantic to New York.
The Thomas Clarkson chest is being lent to a major international exhibition held by the New York Historical Society.
Museum curator David Wright said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to promote the pioneering work of the anti-slavery campaigner Thomas Clarkson to an international audience and significantly to publicise his close association with Wisbech.”
The exhibition is titled ‘Revolution! The Atlantic World Reborn’ and will explore the enormous transformations in the world’s politics and culture between the 1763 triumph of the British Empire in the Seven Years War and the end of the Napoleonic Wars.
