Officials GEAR up for 2016 race round King’s Lynn
Organisers of one of West Norfolk’s biggest sporting events are GEARing up for next year by launching a new website and logo.
Dignitaries fired the starting pistol on Wednesday for the 11th Bespak Grand East Anglia Run and Mini GEAR Fun Run.
More than 3,000 people signed up to complete the 10km race around the town in May.
Organisers are hoping the 2016 event, which takes place on Sunday, May 1, will get a bigger response.
A new GEAR logo and mobile friendly website, which goes live today, have been unveiled as part of the event launch.
Entries for the main race, received by Monday, 14 December, will have the chance to be entered into a draw to win a free place in next year’s London Marathon. The free Marathon place was given to GEAR on winning the BARR 10k race of the year award last year.
Bespak managing director Keyvan Djamarani, race director Roger Partridge, along with West Norfolk Council cabinet members David Pope and Elizabeth Nockolds, launched the event.
Mr Djamarani said Bespak was proud to sponsor GEAR.
He said: “The event goes from strength to strength and the enthusiasm and the excitement is great even if the weather is not ideal in some years.”
Runners will set off from Tuesday Market Place on a fast flat course, taking in the Walks, at 10.45am next year with the fun run starting at 10am.
Mr Pope said: “Despite the rain at last year’s event, we had a fantastic atmosphere and some great performances and people still came out to cheer the runners on.”
The cost of entry is £18 for affiliated runners and £20 for unaffiliated runners. Runners must be aged 15 or over on race day. The Bespak Mini GEAR 1.2m fun run is open to anyone over 6 years of age. The cost of entry for Bespak Mini GEAR is £7 for adults, £6 for under 16s and £5 for under 8s.
There are generous cash prizes for Bespak GEAR category winners and everyone taking part will receive a quality medal and goody bag.
