Parents have been learning more about plans to merge two March schools during special meetings.

Maple Grove Infant School and Westwood Junior School could be merged to create Westwood Primary School in September if the Cambridgeshire County Council proposal is approved.

The council is running a consultation and parents went along to meetings at Maple Grove and Westwood on Wednesday last week.

A county council spokesman said: “Both public consultation meetings were well attended – about 50 at the first and over 70 at the second.

“There were a large number of constructive questions raised, and we feel the proposals have had a fair hearing. We would encourage people to respond to the consultation – it is important that when councillors make their final decision, it is based on a significant community response.”

The new Westwood Primary School would continue to operate on both the existing sites from September, if the proposal is approved.

The consultation will run until February 27 and the county’s children and young people’s committee will make a decision on the proposal during a meeting on March 10.

A final decision on the proposal would need to be made by April 16.

The move is a result of the recent Ofsted report in which Maple Grove was judged to be inadequate and placed in special measures, while Westwood received a good rating.
